Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born 12 November 1961, in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onesti] Romania). She was first to achieve a perfect 10 in an Olympic occasion. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics coach at the time she was only six years old. The year 1969 was the first time she took part at the Romanian Junior Championships and placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. At her first international event in 1972 she won the event with three gold medals. In her first senior competition in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turkishcheva, the five-time European champ winning four gold medals and one silver. She was the first woman to ever successfully complete reverse double saltos while dismounting from an uneven parallel bar.
