Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native, born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. William John Garner served as an engineer for Union Carbide. The mother of her Patricia Ann taught at a local university. To follow her father, she completed a degree in chemical engineering. Then she moved to New York in order to follow her dreams as an actor. In addition to appearing in Broadway plays, she also worked as a server at the nearby restaurant. She had a cameo role in the show "Felicity." (It is on this show where she first met her husband, Scott Foley.) Garner had her breakthrough in her romantic comedic film "13 Goin' on 30" where she played an teen trapped inside a 30 year-old's body. Garner selected Gary Winick for the role as director. The two continued working together on other projects up when Winick's death in the year 2011. Garner was appointed as an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. in 2009, was an important role within the nonprofit organization. In addition to encouraging the importance of early education, literacy and nutrition on a at the national level, his role involves promoting the literacy of all Americans. Garner is a board member for the non-profit group from 2014. She promotes early preschool education. As an ambassador she visits often with the families who are part of Early Steps to School Success, a program that coaches parents in how to assist youngsters in their learning.
